Looking for a new Light Fixture

Yesterday, my husband said to me "You should look for a new light above the table".  This was music to my ears! I've been wanting to get rid of that ceiling fan for sooooo long because it barely gives off any light and it's not the most attractive thing.  Nothing beats eating dinner in the dark while your napkins blow away!  To be honest, I think he just wanted to have better light over the table for card games during the Super Bowl...but, hey, either way... I'll take it!

Here's what he put in when he bought the house:

Here's my dream fixture that we can't afford (sigh...):

 Drum Shade Circlet Lantern
Circlet Lantern - $649

So we took a ride to Lowe's hoping to find something.  We found a fixture that coordinates well with our Kitchen fixtures.  However, I don't really want it all to be so..."matchy-matchy". They are a great Plan B, but I think I'm going to do a little more research before settling! I'm thinking down lights, mixed materials, drum shade...

As I strolled into the second Lighting aisle at Lowe's, I saw this gem! I was SO excited and immediately asked the employee if they carried the style below in different sizes.  I loved it but was looking for something "shorter" and "fatter" (for lack of better terms).  I had the poor guy look up every which way to see if this style was available in the size I was looking for, but sadly, it didn't.  With a price of $154, I knew it would be too good to be true!

Checkolite International 3-Light Hulton Specialty Pewter Chandelier
3-Light Hulton Specialty Pewter Chandelier - $154

If anyone is looking for a fabric drum pendant, here are some affordable options I came across during my search:

Style Selections 17-in W Brown Pendant Light with Fabric Shade
Style Selections 17-in W Brown Pendant Light with Fabric Shade - $84.97

So worth buying for an apartment. Boob lights are ugly and easy to replace.
Shades of Light Chevron Drum Light - $149

This is a potential option...
Stewart 3 Light Pendant

Crystal Base Pendant Chandelier
Crystal Base Pendant Chandelier - $119

Trellis Linen Drum Shade Pendant - 2 colors

By the way, did anyone see that the Young House Love bloggers have their own Lighting Line on Shades of Light ? Congrats to them!!!

...and the search continues! Wish me luck!

Home Goods Happy

One of my FAVORITE stores has to be Home Goods...and it's probably not a good thing at all that there is one on my way home from work.  Anytime I tell someone I stopped into Home Goods, the first thing they ask is "Did you find anything good?!".  So I thought I'd answer this question with a few pics.   I'm also hoping that posting pics here will help me tame any compulsive purchases too!

Front Door Refresh

About a month ago, I took a Sunday afternoon to paint the front door. Since my husband did the siding, I felt this was the least I could do! Plus, we never touched the front door since moving in, so it was well overdue.

I've always wanted to use Benjamin Moore's Westcott Navy somewhere in the house, but decided the front door would be a good test!  With the beige siding, I thought it would be a nice contrast.  So I brought my swatch to Lowe's and had them match the color for me.  A quart was more than plenty.

After...with a little siding to finish around the transom!

After

This mini-project took me no more than a few hours and really made all the difference.  Since we've been so geared on working on the house's interior, we kind of put the exterior on the back burner.  Painting the front door was a quick, easy fix that helped us inch our way to a little bit better "curb appeal"!

The Perfect Greige...

Call me boring, but one of my favorite combinations for our home has been gray and beige.  I like the soothing, neutral feel but it also allows for quick and inexpensive updates for my ever changing mind (let’s face it, this happens often).  With a neutral backdrop you can always add color without having to repaint a room or buy new furniture.  We are always working on something new, so I think keeping the painting projects to the minimum will be key for a successful marriage.

Here's some of the colors we currently have in the house.

Ben Moore Rockport Gray / Living, Dining
Ben Moore Lenox Tan / Entry, Kitchen

About a month or so ago, my cousin Lisa sent me a message asking what our paint color is in the living room.  A little over a year ago, we painted our BM Lenox Tan walls in the living/dining room to be BM Rockport Gray.  We kept the Lenox Tan in the kitchen and entry way. The funny part is, even though they are two different colors , they blend so well and almost look like the same one when you look at the different planes of the walls.

Here are the other contenders that we looked at and loved if you’re looking for a good gray:

Runner up:

Ben Moore's Revere Pewter

I absolutely love this one, and still want to use it somewhere, but we needed something a little darker for our living room in order to notice a difference! Otherwise it would have looked very similar to Lenox Tan in our lighting (defeating the whole purpose of re-painting!)

Well don't these stairs look familiar....ha!

The last image is a perfect example of how creating a neutral backdrop in your home allows you to change your look quickly and inexpensively!  You can always add a pop of color with a throw pillow, lamp, or accessories instead of feeling limited!

Bar Stools Arrived!

Over the weekend the Target Bar Stools I purchased, for $89.99 a piece, arrived!  We put them together today and I'm really pleased.  I was a little worried that the price was too good to be true but they are just what I was looking for. I have to say that they are also very comparable to the Crate and Barrel ones I was looking at (until I saw the $350.00 a stool price tag)!

Interface Flor Catalog

Interface sends us a lot of Flor catalogs but this one really caught my eye.  I love the coral chevron pattern on the cover and wanted to share.  A few people have asked about the whole concept of carpet tiles for their home and I thought there were a few good shots in the catalog that would be worth sharing!

Target Bar Stool Buy

Maybe it's the new year, but lately I've been back on my kick to get the house on track.  With the holidays and such we haven't really had much time to do any big projects this winter.   That or maybe the hubs is still burnt out from siding the house all summer long!  As you can see, I did a little "refreshing"...starting with the blog. What do you think? Of course, this will always be a work in progress but I thought I'd play around and clean it up a bit.

You may remember that we got our new table and chairs in.  So, of course, my urge to replace the old, run down bar stools only intensified! Here's a (not so great) pic of the new table and chairs.
