Wine Corks + Amazon box = Wall Art?

So I'm in the process of updating the wall gallery I designed a few years back in our Living/Dining Room.  Since I want to break the picture frame grid a little bit, I started looking for different pieces.  I found a galvanized metal "N" when I was in Boston a while back but never bought it.  So I checked out Etsy to find something similar...and came across the smaller "N" below for $20.

....but with all that we have going on, I decided to keep the "impulse buys" to a minimum and play with different options to save some cash.

So I decided to try a different alternative that cost me a whopping ZERO dollars!
(unless you count all the wine we drank in the past and the Amazon order Rick received today)

This mini-project took me about a 1/2 hour.  The best part is, it gives you an excuse to open a bottle!  After all, it's "for art".  :)

Salute!

For the love of Target

If I had to pick only one store to shop at for the rest of my life, it would be Target.  Where else can you find a fabulous piece of furniture, a new outfit, great shoes, and your groceries all in one? Might I add that this also makes it particularly difficult when you're "just running in" to get milk...

So yes...I tend to be a "regular" there, but I have to admit, I'm even more impressed with their collaboration with designers to make great pieces affordable.  For example, renowned architect Michael Graves' name has practically become synonymous with Target home products! For those who don't know much about Graves, here is some of his architectural work you may find familiar.

I started writing this post over the weekend.  Ironically, I was flipping through Contract Magazine (Jan/Feb 2013 edition), and saw this great spread about Michael Graves in there. Talk about a coincidence!  Click Here to check out the article and learn more about this Architect.

ok - so on to the Sale Stuff!

Target currently has a "Buy 1, Get one 30% off" Furniture Sale going on.  They've really "upped their game" with the lines they carry and are right on, ah hem... target?... with some pretty great pieces for your home!

New Coffee Table

Happy Friday!!

Hope all you New Englander's are enjoying this beautiful snowfall.

I'm so excited because our coffee table arrived this week. I've been in love with the idea of mixing industrial accents into our home; so when our coffee table broke a month ago, I immediately had my eye on Sylvan Coffee Table from Home Decorators. Even though my husband thinks I purposely broke the old one, I swear it was an accident!!

The Sylvan Coffee Table was a little more than what I wanted to spend, so I decided to hold off and "check up" on it once in a while to see if it was on sale. At lunch one day, I randomly clicked on an e-mail from Home Decorators about a "Martha Stewart Sale".  Not thinking "my" table would be in the category, I almost closed out of the website.  Luckily, I decided to click one more page and saw that the Sylvan Coffee Table was included in the sale ...and now it's in our living room.  : )

Here are a few examples of similar styles that incorporate rustic, industrial pieces for your viewing pleasure.

Looking for a new Light Fixture

Yesterday, my husband said to me "You should look for a new light above the table".  This was music to my ears! I've been wanting to get rid of that ceiling fan for sooooo long because it barely gives off any light and it's not the most attractive thing.  Nothing beats eating dinner in the dark while your napkins blow away!  To be honest, I think he just wanted to have better light over the table for card games during the Super Bowl...but, hey, either way... I'll take it!

Here's what he put in when he bought the house:

Here's my dream fixture that we can't afford (sigh...):

 Drum Shade Circlet Lantern
Circlet Lantern - $649

So we took a ride to Lowe's hoping to find something.  We found a fixture that coordinates well with our Kitchen fixtures.  However, I don't really want it all to be so..."matchy-matchy". They are a great Plan B, but I think I'm going to do a little more research before settling! I'm thinking down lights, mixed materials, drum shade...

As I strolled into the second Lighting aisle at Lowe's, I saw this gem! I was SO excited and immediately asked the employee if they carried the style below in different sizes.  I loved it but was looking for something "shorter" and "fatter" (for lack of better terms).  I had the poor guy look up every which way to see if this style was available in the size I was looking for, but sadly, it didn't.  With a price of $154, I knew it would be too good to be true!

Checkolite International 3-Light Hulton Specialty Pewter Chandelier
3-Light Hulton Specialty Pewter Chandelier - $154

If anyone is looking for a fabric drum pendant, here are some affordable options I came across during my search:

Style Selections 17-in W Brown Pendant Light with Fabric Shade
Style Selections 17-in W Brown Pendant Light with Fabric Shade - $84.97

So worth buying for an apartment. Boob lights are ugly and easy to replace.
Shades of Light Chevron Drum Light - $149

This is a potential option...
Stewart 3 Light Pendant

Crystal Base Pendant Chandelier
Crystal Base Pendant Chandelier - $119

Trellis Linen Drum Shade Pendant - 2 colors

By the way, did anyone see that the Young House Love bloggers have their own Lighting Line on Shades of Light ? Congrats to them!!!

...and the search continues! Wish me luck!

Home Goods Happy

One of my FAVORITE stores has to be Home Goods...and it's probably not a good thing at all that there is one on my way home from work.  Anytime I tell someone I stopped into Home Goods, the first thing they ask is "Did you find anything good?!".  So I thought I'd answer this question with a few pics.   I'm also hoping that posting pics here will help me tame any compulsive purchases too!

Front Door Refresh

About a month ago, I took a Sunday afternoon to paint the front door. Since my husband did the siding, I felt this was the least I could do! Plus, we never touched the front door since moving in, so it was well overdue.

I've always wanted to use Benjamin Moore's Westcott Navy somewhere in the house, but decided the front door would be a good test!  With the beige siding, I thought it would be a nice contrast.  So I brought my swatch to Lowe's and had them match the color for me.  A quart was more than plenty.

After...with a little siding to finish around the transom!

After

This mini-project took me no more than a few hours and really made all the difference.  Since we've been so geared on working on the house's interior, we kind of put the exterior on the back burner.  Painting the front door was a quick, easy fix that helped us inch our way to a little bit better "curb appeal"!
